Our Food Bank breaks records; serves hundreds Our last Food Bank day looked like a bee hive; the need for food continues to increase as economic problems have caught up with many in our area On that day, we broke a record. Look at these statistics: < > 278 bags of food distributed. We had an amazing crew of volunteers working, both
Friday afternoon putting the bags together, and Saturday morning
distributing the food to those who came. We had a large crew, but we needed them all. They
are impressive in the way they work together and care lovingly for
people in need. And, it seemed to rub off. One man who was supposed to receive 6 bags for his family cut his request to 2 bags when he realized we were running out of food.
God is truly working in powerful ways through
our Food Bank. SEE MORE about our Food Bank at this LINK...
New Youth Ministers begin work at Calhoun Church We're excited to report that Tracy Barnes and Stephen Knight and have accepted the work here in Calhoun as our Youth Ministry Team. This is a first for us - a team approach including both male and female youth ministers. Tracy Barnes grew up in our congregation and knows our people well. She has also raised a daughter in this church and now has a teenage son. We know that Tracy will bring great wisdom and insight to this minstry; our youth are already excited and busily working on several projects. And Stephen Knight, an engineering student at Louisiana Tech, also brings other ministry insights from his years of service to his home congregation in Luling, Louisiana. Stephen and Tracy work well together and, with the Spirit's leading, will help us advance the cause of Christ among the young people of our area. Come by our assembly sometime and meet these two wonderful servants of Christ.
Calhoun Church's Preaching Minister, Keith Roberts, publishes book Keith Roberts recently published a book titled Why God Waits For You To Pray, which is now available online and may be ordered at many bookstores. This 152-page book uses Jesus' prayer life as a template to help motivate readers to take prayer as seriously as the Lord took it. You can read an excerpt and see more information at the book's website by clicking on the book cover above.
Calhoun Church supports African evangelist to Muslims Our Tuesday
night prayer group enjoyed a fantastic, uplifting time recently
when Isaac & Fatou Daye of West Africa joined us in our regular
prayer time. Isaac, a World Radio
speaker in Liberia, preaches in an area of Africa that's 90% Muslim.
His program, called "Search", airs two times a week -
once in English and once in the Mandika language. Along with his radio work, he travels throughout several
countries in the area and preaches while his courageous wife and
family pray for his safety while he's gone. In our group he made a comment that echoed Scripture-"For
your sake we face death all day long." (Romans 8:36.) He remarked
that death could come to him at any time. One very effective way Isaac reaches souls is through
World Bible School, a program
we're familiar with here at Calhoun as one of our families, the
Lovelands, use it to try and win souls throughout area prisons.
In a recent report Isaac stated: "Our visit to Liberia was climaxed with a two-day
seminar and graduation for WBS students with an average attendance
of 175 students, many wearing their WBS t-shirts, and coming from
all walks of life and denominations. What brought them together
was their desire to learn the truth and our willingness to teach
them. "Nine WBS students give their life to Christ
and were baptized in the Atlantic Ocean. The heavy ocean waves could
not stop these nine souls from being baptized as they counted their
salvation more important than possibly being drowned by the ocean
waves. "Our WBS office in Liberia recorded 5,000 enrolments
and 89 baptisms before our arrival, and before we left this number
rose to 98." Not only are we keeping Isaac and his family in our
prayers, but we're also financially supporting his radio program
in the Gambia. May the Lord continue to bless the work of this wonderful
family.
Calhoun's 16th Annual Prayer Workshop featured powerful testimonies Our 16th Annual Prayer Enrichment Workshop this year featured several speakers whose lives have been transformed by prayer, including Joe Almanza, Mac & Mary Owen, John Dobbs, Albert Lemmons, & Keith Roberts. This years theme, "Prayer's Power For Transformation", revealed some powerful concepts about prayer, using the testimonies of our speakers, and their years of Bible study..
