SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS CURRICULUM LEADS TO THE Certificate of Prayer Ministry Diploma Required Courses: Course 101: Prayer Life in The Old Testament -I: The Patriarchs & Moses: Keith Roberts. This course is an in-depth exegetical study of prayer throughout the
first five books of the Old Testament. Each reference to prayer in the
text is studied, with an emphasis on how prayer impacted the lives and
spirituality of the people involved.
In this course, primary attention is given to the Psalms, the "prayer book" of Israel. The use of the Psalms in building a prayer life enables us to express the full range of human emotions. Emphasis is therefore given to the use and meaning of the Psalms in the prayer lives of ancient Israel, in the early church, and in today's church. This course also surveys the book of Job where attention is given to significant expressions of suffering, and to the role of prayer in suffering. Throughout this course, the student is encouraged to see that wisdom literature is a great resource to learn how to express both the joys and struggles of life in prayer. Course 103: Prayer Ministry In The Local Church - I: Don Stevens. Don's course is a practical study of the ministry of prayer. The course touches on many areas of prayer with suggestions to help improve and enhance the prayer life of the individual and congregation. Included is information that will help in dealing with people who are in crisis situations and who may contact the church for prayer help. The student is encouraged to use this course as a springboard of ideas for developing a prayer ministry in their local congregation. Course 103 will give churches and individuals a place to begin in the ministry of intercession.
Prayer Life In The Old Testament - III: Israel & The Kings: Keith Roberts. In this study, the student is taken through an exegetical survey of
all the relevant passages on prayer from the biblical books of Joshua,
Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles,
Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther.
Prayer Life In The Old Testament - IV: The Prophets: Barry Stephens. This course is a survey of the prayer lives of the prophets. Attention
is given to the message of the prophets for their own day, but particular
emphasis is given to the power of their prayer lives in the preaching
work that God entrusted to them. As the course develops, the student
will also see the significance of intercessory prayer to the prophets
as they call the people of Israel back to covenant relationship with
God.
Course 201: The Prayer Life Of Jesus: Keith Roberts. This course on the prayer life of Jesus surveys the place of prayer in the life of God's Son. It leads the student through all the Old Testament passages referring in prospect to Jesus' prayer life, and then surveys his prayer life in the four Gospels. The purpose of studying Jesus' prayer life is to show what a central and vital role prayer played in his ministry and in the outworking of how God's own Son would live a human life. Since the Messiah's prayer life is the only perfect one, the student is encouraged to imitate Jesus' prayer life daily.
The Prayer Life Of The Early Church: Barry Stephens. Course 202 is a study of prayer in the early church with particular
emphasis on the book of Acts. Even a casual look at the early church
demonstrates the importance of prayer. For example, prayer is mentioned
39 times in the 28 chapters of Acts. The purpose of this course is to
deepen the student's conviction that prayer is absolutely vital to the
church's life and health in any generation. Course 203: Prayer Ministry In The Local Church - II: Don Stevens. This second course on Prayer Ministry in the Local Church surveys two specific areas which influence one's prayer life: fasting and journaling. The lessons on fasting deal with issues such as why individuals should fast and how fasting can impact the prayer life of the local congregation. Several sections also deal with how one can keep a prayer journal and why such a journal is important to one's prayer life. Special attention is also given to maintaining a personal relationship with God through prayer.
The Apostles' Prayer Lives: Keith Roberts. This course traces the history of the spiritual development of those whom Jesus chose as apostles. Beginning their training under his guidance, they were spiritual novices and beginners at prayer. But later, as the Lord ascended and delivered the church into their care, we see these men grow more and more powerful prayer. And we see their primary emphasis on prayer cause the rapid growth of Jesus' church, changing the course of human history.
What Jesus Taught About Prayer: Barry Stephens. Course 205 is a study of texts from the four gospels where Jesus taught specific lessons on prayer. The prayer life of Jesus itself is an incredible source on how one should pray, but Jesus also taught his disciples to pray through instruction, parables, and illustrations. As this course develops, the student will have an opportunity to examine each text where Jesus gave instruction regarding prayer.
Elective Courses: Course 301: Readings In Prayer Classics (Contact Barry Stephens.) Course 202: CrossView Prayer Retreat.
